Empathy, Humility and Modesty in Recruitment and Hiring processes.

A Pendulum - between an employers' market and a candidate market and everything in between.

In an employer's market (like the current one) I want to encourage all of us to refine and sharpen our tools. No, not another post about the Chat GPT revolution and the future of AI - but a somewhat simple post with a clear message.

The wheel is always turning around and around - so it is true that now there are many resumes, in the shadow of layoffs and unstable geopolitical developments, and it is possible to be more precise - but this does not exempt us from being "human beings". I hear a lot about disrespectful hiring processes. This is still true...today's candidate can be tomorrow's client and therefore we must not compromise professionalism alongside human sensitivity.

Biases - as always, as professionals, we must be aware of our biases in recruitment and HR management processes. True, the POOL is bigger and there are a lot of resumes to sort through, but I still highly recommend challenging our biases, thinking outside the box and looking for motivational ingredients over dry experience. These have always been my best recruits (you know who you are)

Modesty - we, HR people, who are at the gate of the organization - we are accountable for good or bad. It is important to remember this, and approach hiring (and firing) processes with humility, eye level communication, and empathy (our superpower). We have no business without our people. It is so important to remember that behind each person is a whole world. I try to approach every person with curiosity and openness to learning.

So not another post about chat GPT that will change our lives, but a return to the roots - because no matter what technology will help us in our work - our humanity is our strength. It is what makes people stay, trust, trust, and choose us.
